Aerial Expression as a Profession

BEGINNERS/ ONE MONTH PROGRAM

In this multi-month program, you’ll dive into a broad landscape of expression styles, movement history, influential artists, and key creative lineages that have shaped contemporary and aerial dance. You’ll gain not only technical skills but also a contextual understanding of where these practices come from, how they evolved, and how you can integrate them into your own artistic identity.

Your weekly schedule includes a balanced mix of floor and aerial training, contemporary dance classes, core conditioning, flexibility work, and foundational exercises in improvisation and composition. These sessions are designed to help you build strength, deepen your movement vocabulary, refine technique, and expand your ability to communicate through the body. You will also be encouraged to explore personal creativity through guided tasks, research prompts, and reflective movement studies.

The course features a two-part assessment to evaluate both your intellectual understanding and your practical application of the material:

1. Theory Component

You’ll complete written responses to a series of questions related to each unit. These questions cover topics such as creative methods, movement principles, historical context, stylistic influences, safety, pedagogy, and your own artistic reflections. The goal is to support deeper comprehension and critical thinking around the practice.

2. Practical Component

You will be asked to create a short filmed submission that includes:

  • A clear and safe warm-up sequence

  • A short class introduction explaining focus, goals, and structure

  • A combination or sequence of movements demonstrating technique and flow

  • A cool-down that shows proper recovery methods

Additionally, you will be required to film yourself teaching and spotting three individual aerial moves with at least one student. This video should demonstrate:

  • Verbal clarity and communication

  • Movement breakdown and progression

  • Safe spotting skills

  • Confidence and leadership as an instructor

By completing both components, you’ll gain a holistic understanding of the art form — not only how to move, but how to teach, analyze, guide, and create with intention.t.

BEGINNERS ADVANCE /ONE MONTH PROGRAM

At this level, you’ll deepen both your technical and physical abilities, expanding strength, endurance, body awareness, and movement vocabulary. We’ll continue building on your previous dance experience while refining precision, fluidity, and creative confidence.

The flexible weekly schedule includes a rich mix of classes such as modern and contemporary techniques, core conditioning, floorwork, improvisation, composition, and guided movement research. Students also receive dedicated time for artistic investigation, allowing space to explore ideas, refine processes, and develop a personal voice in movement.

Throughout the program, we’ll work together to define your individual goals and areas of focus. You’ll have space to experiment, take creative risks, analyze your work, and track your evolution through continuous feedback and reflective practice.

A strong contemporary influence runs through the curriculum, with an emphasis on modern dance foundations, dynamic movement pathways, and intensified aerial training. Aerial classes incorporate complementary repertoires, creative transitions, and choreographic exploration to support a more integrated and expressive movement approach.

By the end of the program, dancers cultivate not only stronger technique but also a deeper artistic identity — the ability to create, interpret, and express with intention, clarity, and authenticity.

The Aerial Expression Teacher Training is an immersive journey designed for movers, dreamers, and teachers who wish to deepen their relationship with aerial arts, dance, and embodiment.

This program blends technique, creative exploration, and pedagogy, offering both remote and in-person formats for accessibility and flexibility. Whether you train from your local studio or on your approved home rigging, you’ll find a space to grow, connect, and discover your own voice as an instructor.

Rooted in over 15 years of teaching, performing, and researching movement around the world, Aerial Expression was born from the fusion of contemporary dance, floorwork, aerial flow, and emotional awareness — a way of moving that integrates air and earth, body and spirit, strength and vulnerability.

Throughout the course, we dive into both the technical and poetic dimensions of aerial practice: how to build trust in your body, how to guide others safely, and how to teach not just skills — but presence, breath, and artistry.

You’ll also receive theoretical material that traces the evolution and influences of the Aerial Expression method, offering a deeper understanding of its creative roots and how it continues to evolve as a living practice.

All materials are presented through an easy-to-use online platform, giving you lifetime access to more than 200 reference videos, anatomy lectures, class structures, and creative tools to support your evolution as a teacher.

The Training Includes:

  • Technique breakdowns & progressions for each skill

  • Functional anatomy & injury prevention

  • Rigging & safety principles

  • Spotting techniques

  • Tools to develop your personal and safe teaching language

  • Creative warm-ups that connect body and intention

  • Aerial & contemporary dance integration — the foundation of the Aerial Expression approach

  • Theoretical insights on the evolution and artistic influences behind Aerial Expression

At its core, Aerial Expression is not just a method — it’s a philosophy: a reminder that movement is conversation, that discipline and freedom can coexist, and that through safety, technique, and creativity,
we create not only stronger dancers, but more embodied human beings

If you choose the distance format, the program includes online classes and personalized feedback sessions, plus in-person meetings arranged between the student and the main teacher. The teacher may travel to your city for guided sessions, or you can organize a trip to the I’m Here Lab in Vienna, where we’ll spend one week working intensively on the physical part and establishing your teaching practice. You can also consult us about accommodation options, and we can help you arrange your stay.

For those without prior experience, we offer a Pre-Education Program — a one-month preparation course designed to help you build body awareness, strength, flexibility, and a basic movement vocabulary before starting the full Teacher Training. This preparatory phase allows you to develop confidence with movement and body expression, understand fundamental aerial and floor techniques, and prepare both mind and body for the deeper training process. After completing the Pre-Education Program, you can smoothly transition into the full Teacher Training.
